Children

Here are just some of the many ways our children are growing in faith and love.

Children in Worship

On Sunday mornings, we welcome children of all ages and backgrounds to worship with “A Time for the Child” during the service. This summer, we are introducing our Pray Ground a designated area in the front of the sanctuary where parents and children can quietly engage in thematic activities while experiencing worship together. Our nursery is staffed each Sunday for children younger than 3 and, of course, parents always have the option to simply sit with their children in the pews.

Sunday School

During the school year, kids ages 3-10 are invited to attend Sunday School following the “Time for the Child.” Located in our education building, children walk to Sunday School with Pastor Susan to spend the rest of the service enjoying crafts, games and other activities centering around different Bible stories.

CrossWalk:

Faith and Fellowship for Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders

Once a month, all third, fourth and fifth graders are invited to spend time together having a good time learning about our faith! Together, we discuss Bible lessons and discover how they apply to our daily lives. Past activities have included bowling, movie nights, volleyball, car washes, scavenger hunts, swim parties, overnights, campfires and much more. CrossWalk also participates in mission projects around the church and in the community. Bring a friend to CrossWalk where faith and friendship intersect!

Confirmation

In the United Methodist Church, youth are invited to carefully consider their faith and commitment before joining the church as full members. Confirmation is a time of learning and growing, discovering and discerning designed to help 7th, 8th and 9th graders identify their beliefs and make a commitment to their ongoing journey of faith in the United Methodist Church. Confirmation is held in the spring every other year with other churches participating in our Joint Youth Group.

Vacation Bible School

For many years, we presented a week-long day camp each summer designed to encourage children in their spiritual growth. This was always a fun and energetic week of learning and playing in faith together. From pirates to Harry Potter to a world village, Dr. Seuss to the streets of Rome, the wild west to super heroes, you never know what kind of amazing adventures we will have at Vacation Bible School!  While the COVID pandemic has altered our summer plans for the past few years, we hope that we will be able to re-start this neighborhood summer tradition in the future.

This summer, join us for The Village on Tuesday evenings in July with faith-filled activities designed for the whole church family.

Woodhaven Preschool

Woodhaven Preschool is nestled under the redwood trees on the Willow Glen United Methodist Church campus near downtown Willow Glen. We offer preschool and pre-kindergarten half day programs for children ages 2 1/2 years through age 5. The play-based, developmental curriculum at Woodhaven Preschool is designed to provide our young students the freedom to discover who they are.
